Drew Griffith Officially Runs 2 Mile National Record At NBNI
Boys/Girls Varsity Indoor TrackPhoto by David Nguyen | MileSplit National Record Moments Bobby Reyes Mar 10, 2024 BOSTON -- It's official now. Drew Griffith ran himself into the record books. After netting an unofficial national high school record for two miles in February, the Butler senior followed it up at New Balance Nationals Indoor on Sunday, and this time he simply left no doubt. Griffith was well ahead of the pacing lights at The TRACK at New Balance and stopped the clock at 8:34.91, even improving on his former mark by four seconds. Last month Griffith made waves when he ran 8:38.67 on an oversized track at the Alex Wilson Invitational. While the performance in February was an all-time, all-conditions No. 1, it wasn't counted officially as a national record, given that it came on an oversized track. Griffith's performance on Sunday solidified himself in the record books. If the record s

Hunter Swidzinski - PIAA State Champion!
Butler’s Hunter Swidzinski wins PIAA golf title in all-WPIAL playoff By: Paul Schofield Tuesday, October 17, 2023 | 8:51 PM Butler senior Hunter Swidzinski figured he had nothing to lose heading into the final round of the PIAA Class 3A golf championship Tuesday. All he did was shoot the best round of his life. Swidzinski shot an 8-under-par 64 and then won a three-hole playoff to claim the title and become the school’s first winner. Swidzinski sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to edge WPIAL champion Nick Turowski of Penn-Trafford. Swidzinski, Turowski and Plum’s Wes Lorish finished the 36-hole tournament at Penn State’s Blue Course tied at 7-under. Lorish was eliminated on the first playoff hole. Turowski missed a birdie on the second playoff hole, but Swidzinski did not miss on the next hole. “It’s incredible,” Swidzinski said. “After my round on Monday, I knew it would be tough

Drew Griffith Seals 2-Mile Masterpiece With Historic Time
Boys/Girls Varsity Indoor TrackNational Record Moments Cory Mull Feb 17, 2024 * Butler's Drew Griffith clocked the fastest 2-mile in history on Saturday at Notre Dame Photo Credit: David Nguyen/MileSplit - - - There were signs last year that Edward Cheserek's 2-mile national record was in jeopardy. In January of last year, Jackson Heidesch clocked a historic 8:42.60 effort at 2-miles to outrun Connor Burns in the final laps at the CYUP Misfits Invitational, registering the fourth-fastest time at the distance in history. He would go on to break four in the mile later that year. Burns, however, would avenge that loss just a few months later, posting the seventh-fastest 2-mile in history with his 8:43.24 from New Balance Nationals Indoor. Still, Cheserek's time stood. No athlete in history had gone under 8:40 for two miles. Maybe Drew Griffith had that on his mind on Saturday when he stepped to the line at the Gold

Lebanon (7), Bethel Park (6), Hempfield Area (6), Woodland Hills (6), and Churchill (5) among the schools in that club. FASTEST 5K IN PA HISTORY - GRIFFITH
Boys/Girls Varsity Cross CountryThe fastest time in Pennsylvania history. The second-fastest on Virginia soil ever. The 16th-best performance in the high school record books. Drew Griffith had himself a day at the MileStat Invitational. The Butler (PA) senior unleashed a ridiculous time of 14:21.00 for 5,000 meters on Saturday to claim the elite boys race at Pole Green Park, coming up just two-tenths of a second short of tying Drew Hunter's all-time soil record of 14:20.80 from 2015. Griffith won by a full 22 seconds, which is saying something because runner-up Berkley Nance ran 14:43 and Calvert Hall's Cameron Davis was third in 15:00. But Griffith did do another thing, too. The Notre Dame commit passed Archbishop Wood graduate Gary Martin ('22) with the fastest-time by any boys athlete in Pennsylvania history, moving past the current Virginia athlete's top time of 14:24.16 from 2021 at the Garmin RunningLane XC Championships. To top it off? Gri
